Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) is the fourth version of the Internet Protocol, which assigns unique IP addresses in a numeric format to devices on a network. Due to the exponential growth of the internet, the range of available IPv4 addresses is becoming scarce, leading to the development and adoption of IPv6, which offers a much larger address space.
