Ping
Network Diagnostic Tool for Testing Reachability
Ping is a computer network administration software utility used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It measures the round-trip time for messages sent from the originating host to a destination computer and echoes back. The term "ping" is used as a metaphor for the sonar's echo location, reflecting the concept of sending out a signal and waiting for a response.
